Laptop Upgradeability

I have a question aobut upgrading my laptop. I have a Compaq nx9420 and looking at the service manual, it says that the processer and video card are upgradeable. I have 2 questions. 1. Are the Core 2 Duos socket-compatible with the core duos and will my chipset even recognize it. 2. where does one get a laptop graphics board?
 
Sometimes the "upgradeable" statement does not mean "by the user." Best check that with HP-Compaq. Those components on a laptop generally require removal of the keyboard - not a user authorized procedure.
 
Just a note, if you upgrade any of those on your own (without pre-approval from HP), you will void your warranty.

As for where you get a laptop graphics board, most likely the only upgrade path with that is if HP/Compaq releases a new graphics board for that machine and the appropriate BIOS update for the mobo.
 
Normally the only upgrades that I'm familiar with is RAM and Harddrive upgrades. Anything else would be technically challenging.

One can add pcmcia cards, media storage drives, usb attachments, etc without difficulty. Opening any laptop without previous training is liken to performing brain surgery on yourself.

IMO, one should practice caution and be prepared for the worse.
