Laptop underclockage....

Can you underclock laptops? Which processors? For instance if I could take a Turion down to around 400MHz I might consider getting one (as opposed to a P-M). My goal is ~6 hour battery life, ~4 with wireless. 12 cell battery of course.

I've heard AMD's clocking scheme is open source or something, while Intel's is not. Would that make a difference as to clockability?

Also, assuming you can underclock a P-M, what sort of battery life increase would you get?

I have a V2000Z with a sempron that gets 5-6 hours wireless surfing the web with the 12 cell battery

HOLY CRAP!

Everywhere I've read has said they only get 2.5-3.

Any ideas why is the Turion worse? (is yours the 256 or 128KB cache version/does that even make a difference)

You can underclock anything, altough to my knowledge, from easiest to hardest:

P-m
turion
athlon xp-m/sempron(barton)
celery

All of those except the celery underclock automatically.

Now if you are talking about underVOLTING, then its possible on all of them too, difficulty also in that order

Its 256kb of cache. I dunno why the people are claiming less battery life. I do turn my screen down to the lowest dim, so that might be why I'm getting such low battery life usage? I haven't spent 6 straight hours unplugged, but once I did 4 hours, and I still had around 17% left on the charge, so I would assume that it could go around another 1-2 hours.
