This is what I do with my phone

Basically you need to have your phone setup as the modem which I know is pretty straight forward over IR, but I'm not so sure for a usb connection.

It's all dependant on the model of your phone and the software you use, with most phones now though pretty much all mobiles (in the uk anyway) are capable of acting as modems and phone lines without the need for any special software.

Chances are you can contact your network provider and ask for assitance on setting up your notebook to use your mobile phone (cell as you call it) to dial up to the internet anyway :)

What company provides the service for your cell phone? I know that I can't do this with ATnT if I just want dialup. I would have to get EDGE service and buy an EDGE card. It would be as fast as DSL... however it's like 80/month...

What model phone do you have?

I use Sprint and have a data cable that connects to a USB port on my laptop. I can connect to the internet throught it. But it all depends on the carrier, which phone you have and what's available for it.
