I'm trying to find the best laptop for my parents. Cowboom canceled my MBP order so now I have a chance to find them a durable long lasting system.

I've been browsing slickdeals, seems that the ones that do go on sale are the cheap-o Hp's and toshiba's. My mom has been through those, usually always having issues.

So I figured I'd go back to the durable and well regarded brand IBM

I have found a seller willing to give me a W500 for $450 OTD

Here are the specifics:
T9600(2.8GHz), 4GB RAM, 320GB 7200rpm HD, 15.4in 1680x1050, 512MB ATI FireGL V5700, CDRW/DVDRW Burner, Intel 802.11agn, WWAN option, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ether, UltraNav, Sec Chip, FPR, Camera, 9c Li-Ion, Win7

What do you guys think? I figured I put in a decent ssd, I would have a great durable computer that I won't have to worry about replacing years from now.

I wouldn't pay 450 for a 2008 model laptop. Sandybridge based with integrated gpu would be more reliable.

What kind of issues did your mom have with HP and toshiba? Aesthetics?

All build quality issues. Keyboard usually falling apart was a big issue. Also many heating issues.

Anyways purchased this

Shipping was waived :D

Should be a speedy laptop, just for web browsing and documents. I have a spare ssd that I'll put in there

My work laptop is a W500. It's built like a tank! Still very fast in Windows 7 for work related tasks.
