Laptop sound replacement: Extigy, what else???

I'm looking for other products similar, but hopefully smaller, than the extigy. The sound in my Toshiba 1005-s157 is broke, and I can't get it working . . . so I'm looking for external sound solutions. It's not a gaming thing, so the sound quality doesn't really have to be any higher than my SB Live is at home.

There is the stereolink external sound decoder. Not sure if it bigger or smaller than the extigy, but the sound quality is probaby much better. Stereolink

You may also want to check out solutions from NewQ. I'd suggest the NewQ platinum. It's cheaper than the extigy and looks much better. The downside is that it looks like it lacks digital in/out. But all the component outs are there and it claims to be compatible with any sound card. The remote is also much simpler, which may be good or bad. Newegg has the device for $85 with free shipping.

It doesn't look like the NewQ will work. I need something that doesn't require a sound card at all, due to the fact that the sound card on my laptop is broken.

I would say that what you want is a PCMCIA sound card - this type ought to meet your needs, and it does not require on-board sound.
