Laptop shuts down while installing service pack 2

I'm trying to fix my friend's toshiba laptop but i'm stuck. Supposedly, with the AC adapter connected, the laptop randomly shuts down. A75-S206 is the model # of the laptop. I can only reproduce the error consistenly when i try to install service pack 2. Anyone ever hear about this problem?
 
the only thing that consistently turns off the computer is installing sp2. I'll check the fans on the laptop when i get the chance. I'll post my results later.
