Laptop scroll pad issue

I have a Sony Vaio and the scroll pad has been acting weird. Sometimes when I get to the user log in on Windows XP the scroll pad would not function at all. Restarting it seems to be the temporary cure. Also once in a while while I'm using the pad, it would suddenly go amock. It moves by itself all over my diyamn screen so fast.

Any clue why this is happening?

Thanks!

You may want to try turning down the Hardware Accelleration.

Goto:
Start \ Control Panel \ Appearance and Themes \ Display \ Settings \ Advanced Troubleshoot
and move the Slider down a little at a time to see if the problem goes away.
