My dell laptop screen went Kaput...all I can see is rainbow colors on the screen...I can still hear the machine boot up though. Any suggestion?

Connect to a external monitor and see if it actually boots without a problem and that the video displays correctly. There might be a function key you need to press but I am not sure.

More than likely it is the LCD panel itself.

Can you hook it up to a standard monitor?
If so, you can download the Dell Diagnostics disk
from their website and run it to check .

Dell Support Download

Enter your service tag number and model, then "Diagnostics Utilities"

Better to get a new laptop; the screens run anywhere from $600-$900 themselves.

If you buy from Dell. Check out EBay, there are literally hundreds of laptop screens there. Make sure you get the right one, if that is the problem.

Usually it is pretty easy. Take all the plastict off, remove the hinges, unplug the cables, remove plastic from around lcd, insert new panel.
