Laptop Screen repair possible? Comes on then goes back out - Problem Solved

Got this laptop the other day from my sister, but the screen is bad.
she dropped somethingon the Laptop and the screen never worked after that.

So she bought another one and i ended up with this one.

When i first power it up,the screen will actually come on so that i see the Compaq sign, then it goes right back out.I tried hooking it up to a monitor to see what it would do,and it works perfect.

Also: After the screen goes out and it loads Windows,i can still actually see the desktop if i look very hard, and with a little bit of light in the room.Could the LCD Light Inverter not be working, and not lighting up the backlight?

Problem Solved: After i took the screen completely apart to check for the part Number on the Converter,i noticed there was one of the wires cut from the Converter.so i spliced it back together, and it is working perfect now

Specs:

Compaq Presario 3000
17" Screen i believe
P4 2.4G
512Mb PC2100

Was hoping maybe theres a small chance that these screens can be prepaired?
if not,any clue how much a replacement would be?

Thanks for any info on this.

Also, if anyone knows how to work on these,or actually has a screen that will fit i'd be interested as well.

Sounds like the backlight or inverter has failed. If its firing briefly I'd lean towards inverter.. Easy enough to repair!

If you throw that model spec into ebay and select notebook parts you will usually see lots of inverters pop up.

If you cannot repair the display I would be interested to buy it for use as a webserver, but obviously pretty cheap 🙂

Thanks for the info.

I seen one of the Inverters on Ebay for around $19 i think.
is that a fair price for one of these?

I have nothing in this laptop but some time repairing a few of her PC's/Laptops.so i guess i'll live with a $20 Part. 🙂

Sounds like a cool deal, unless they charge $25 shipping. Some of the parts dealers do, so watch out.

After checking for the part Number on the Converter,i noticed one of the 2 wires coming out of the inverter was cut.must have been from when the TV fell on top of it,the trim of the screen some how twisted and cut it.i spliced it back together and it is working perfect now.

Thanks for all the help.
I was just about to buy an Inverter from Ebay but wanted to be sure of the exact Model Number of the Inverter.and got lucky i guess. 🙂
