laptop recommendations?

im getting a laptop for my second year of university soon, and i was wondering what a good laptop was. im aiming for the sub $2000 range and it should have firewire and video out (for a TV). i suppose usb 2.0 and infrared are optional, but would be great if it had it.

also, what do you guys think of the ECS A929?

it has firewire, usb 2.0, infrared and video out. the cpu, ram and hard drive are upgradable with desktop components. but the laptop is said to get really hot, a bit heavy, and has no battery.

The ECS A929 is fine if you don't need a battery. The performance is ok too and the price beats just about everything out there.
