Laptop Recommendations - Updated

My aunt's SOTEC (never heard of them) laptop just died - I believe its the backlight that went. She is interested in a new laptop that is fairly light (her current laptop is around 4 pounds) and has a max budget of $800. Before I send her into BB or CC and just have her purchase whatever laptop is on sale, are there any recommendations from the forum? I am a bit out of the laptop scene, since all we purchase at work are Latitude D620s which are out of her price range.

Update - now she is okay w\ spending $1500 if it includes an all in one printer and 4 years of warranty. I am leaning towards a lower end D620.

Thanks!
Tim

You'll probably have to go for something heavier for that price-range. Look at the Inspiron 1501 (starts at $599) or one of these:
Mobile Celerons/Semprons: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi...egory=32&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc=
Core Duo/Core Solo/Turion X2/Mobile Celeron: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductCo...2CN82E16834146270%2CN82E16834147273[/L
-I wouldn't buy a Lenovo off of Newegg though; supposedly, they are not an authorized reseller, so the warranty starts when Newegg receives the laptop, not when you purchase it.

Thanks, but I think she really needs a good, long warranty. Thats whats killing me - I can get her a decent Toshiba laptop w\ 1 GB of Ram, Core Duo 2060, and DVD Burner for 699, but its only a 1 year warranty. Plus, the extended warranty from BB doesn't cover accidental damage. This is where Dell really shines - their accidental damage coverage is fantastic. But when you add that to a decent Dell laptop, it puts it over 1000.

The link I posted above has a 2 year extended warranty. Not sure what all it covers, but a pretty nice laptop for the price in my opinion. Anyway, good luck with your hunt.

Well, she's upped her max to 1500, to include an all-in-one printer an 4 years of warranty. Hopefully this will allow me to get her a D620...
