Laptop recommendations for the business professional

Hi, my boss asked me to look into getting him a laptop and I'd like to get your recommendations for a good laptop in the $2000.00 and less range. This will be used purely for business applications so it does not have to have a good video card for gaming purposes. Things my boss would like in the laptop would be that its sturdy, powerful enough that he wont have to upgrade for a few years, lightweight and easy to read (ie: bright and large screen). He's looking to buy within the next few weeks so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

 
also check out fujitsu S7010 (14") or s6231 (13.3"), both with Fujitsu CRYSTALVIEW screens (some Fujitsu models don't have it).

build quality is comparable to IBM

the screen is supposed to be the best out there- comparable to Sony XBrite without the pain of actually owning a Sony!! 😀

 
he says he wants a bright screen screen. i DONT recommended IBM or ibook/powerbook for that reason. They both have the dullest screen in the business if you ask me. my generic MAG LCD i got for my cousin is brighter then these lappys.

Go with the Fujitsu S6231 or S7010 if you want bigger screen. Fujitsu crystal view is the best screen period

I don't think he can go wrong with either the Dell D800/600 or the IBM Thinkpad T42, as others have already said.
Your problem will be getting one for under $2000 🙂
 
Actually, if you get a Thinkpad T42 with what is known as "FlexView," the screen brightness is SUPERB. FlexView isn't like the crytalview/brightview/etc because it doesn't put that silly coating on the screen and cause all the glare. But it does improve clarity, brightness, and viewing angle. I can see my TP's screen from almost any angle. The built quality is top of the line and support is unbeatable.
I can't speak to Fujitsu, but I hear they are quite nice also. Both would be good choices

My T42 screen is just fine, and I use it all the time.

t42 is very doable for under $2000.

This is an aweseome system for the money. Definitely drop in another 256MB of RAM, or even a 512. I have the 15" version and I love it to death. The 14" screen will be nice if he wants to travel a lot or just doesn't want to carry around the bigger screen.
 
I am looking for a laptop for someone too. He wants it to be lite and portable and have a widescreen if possible. Also long battery life is a must. I looked at some of the laptops posted here and see that some do have widescreens but some of these laptops dont seem to list battery life (maybe a missed it). Also does adding more ram and larger HDD decrese battery life? Thanks
 
IBM T42 or 15" Apple Powerbook... fujitsu also makes nice machines though. I personally would go with the IBM if he wants a PC...

i am not saying the T42 screen is bad, it is just not as nice to look at as some of the new lappy with enchance screens. in fact, i find it very boring to look at. Much like looking at a generic LCD
