I'm looking to buy a laptop soon, need recommendations. It doesn't need to be high-end... not using it for gaming. I'll probably just use it for word processing, email, and programming. And I'll most likely end up formatting it as soon as I get it and installing Mandrake Linux on it, because I hate Win XP. But beyond that, I'd like to keep cost between $1500 and $2000. Can anyone make any recommendations? Anything I should definitely not get? I'm thinking Toshiba probably, they seem to have good deals. Anyway, what do you guys think?

consider a dell with a pentium-m chip, costing around $1200, or the ultra sexy IBM X31... for around $1500

Ohhhhh soooo sexyyyy.....

actually its just ultra portable, one of the reason that you are getting a laptop probably.

IBM is the uber laptop maker imho. But Toshiba is also pretty good but not IBM quality.

There have just been a $999 IBM T23 deal, but it is dead now. But IBM sells these for $1079 (I think it was) at their authorized EBay site.
