ok i am finally ditching the desktop for a more convenient laptop. Here are the two I am considering, please let me know what you guys think or have had experience with any of them

1. Fujitsu s2110
gonna upgrade to 1 gb ram and a faster harddrive (is there that much of a difference between a 4200rpm and 5400rpm hd?)
2. Averatec
havent heard much about this brand, but a friend has it and seems to like it. any inputs?

oh yeah, i want something that's super light weight and NO widescreens.

I hear there is a large difference between 4200 and 5400. Definitely go with the 5400RPM drive, maybe go with the 7200RPM drive if you want an even faster hdd.

If you're interested in weight, you may want to head towards the Fujitsu which is lighter than the Averatec notebook. Also, the Averatec notebook has a WXGA screen, so skip that one.

I hear Fujitsu is a good brand, but I would wait for someone else to come along and give their opinion.

The current climate of laptops (where price is concerned) is such that your money is directed in one of two ways. Small size or great performance. If you want either, you are paying a premium. Everything else inside the laptop (besides the GPU) can be had for alot less if you are able to compramise the size of the machine.

If widescreen is out, it looks like you will be stuck paying a premium for size. Unless you are willing to look at the Dell XPS 1210 (starts at $1200 and decently configured for $1400), the fujitsu may be your best bet. I would avoid Averatec, but I have no hands-on experience. I read some reviews of a couple they had at newegg and they seemed problematic.

it also has some special offers when you buy fujitsu new notebook

Special Offers
Free Lexar 1GB USB Flash Drive with the purchase of a new Notebook or Tablet PC
Free Netgear 54Mbps Wireless Router with the purchase of a new Notebook or Tablet PC

I have the Thinkpad T60p, and am very impressed with it thus far. It has hit some pretty sweet numbers in 3DMark esp for being a "proffesional" system. If you go with the T60 the x1400 overclocks to some pretty good speeds from what I have read also. If I were you I wouldnt get anything other than a 7200rpm hard driver, but that is just me.
