Thinking about getting a Dell laptop and I am wondering if a Pentium M is better than a P4??

each has its benefit. if you prefer thin/small notebooks it will be pentium M (less heat, lower power consumption) or if you want a full size desktop replacement it will be the pentium 4 (more heat, more power comsumption). technology wise, the pentium m is much better. it will just depend on what size of notebook your getting.

Those Dothan Pentium M's are ussually quite a bit faster than a P4. Only really benifit of the P4's in a laptop is that they are cheaper. A Pentium M is superior in every way IMO.

depends on you typical use. P4 is a good option only as a desktop replacement. The advantage is as dc5 pointed out. I would recommend Pentium M. I have a notebook running on P4 gets pretty hot if I use it for more than couple of minutes.

Pentium M with the dothan core all the way. It's Intels first real step towards a real CPU IMO. 😀

thank you. i am comparing the Dell 1150 to the 600M. I think I will concentrate more on the 600M.

look at some ibm and fujitsu too.

ya have a good look at IBM expecialy. IMO dell has been known lately for low quality laptops.

I wouldn't even touch a P4 for a desktop replacement laptop. Those suckers run super hot, with a fan spinning really high and loud. Stick with the Pentium M, or find an AMD64 based system if you can.

this is pretty much my opinion on things as well.
