i've got a an acer aspire laptop and i can't get the touchpad or keyboard to respond. i've done a fresh system restore and the problem persists. everything works fine in safe mode however.

i'm at my wits end. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance!!

Since it works in Safe Mode, I don't see it as a hardware problem. What OS are you using? Have you tried removing the touchpad and/or keyboard in Device Manager? Can you use a mouse in a USB port? Sounds like a possible driver conflict.

I recently went through fits with my Toshiba touchpad! 😉

A few things:

1) I have an ALPS touchpad, but Vista thought I had a SYNAPTICS touchpad, and updated my install with the wrong drivers. Be sure you are using the correct drivers for your touchpad. Sometimes vendors use different touchpads in the same model of lappy.

2) The Toshiba ALPS drivers sucked! I ended up using Dell ALPS drivers, so you might try drivers from a different vendor.

3) I don't know what features your driver set has, but mine allows you to manually turn off the touchpad and/or automatically turn off the touchpad, if you have a USB mouse in use, et cetera, e.g. make sure your touchpad is turned on...
