Laptop Problem Need help

When I pop in a dvd the screens backlight turns off and the computer frezzes. I have disabled auto play and it still does it and I have service pack 2 installed.
 
Is it only DVDs that do that? What about game CDs or better, game DVDs? If it always does that when you enter a CD/DVD. it sounds like a strange hardware issue.
If it is just when you put in movie DVDs, maybe it is just a driver issue - in which case I would delete the driver from the System Manager and let Windows install it again upon reboot.

Really sounds like a bad hardware issue tho.
