Laptop prices and upgrades....

do you think with the new 1ghz and laptops will push the prices on laptops down significantly soon?? I'm looking at a fujitsu PIII 650 for about 1350. Does this seem like a good price or should I wait? Anyone own a Fujitsu by the way?

Also, I read in another forum sometime ago that in some laptops the processor chip can be upgraded...I think I remember reading that the dude replaced a 650 with a 800 or 850. Does anyone know anything about this or know where you can find this kind of info??

personally i wont bet that the 1 Ghz laptops will help drag down the prices of other laptops but the Geforce2Go-equipped ones.
i believe we have seen the limit of the mobile P3 already @ around 900Mhz (there are a lot of problems with the 1Ghz) so buying a 600-850Mhz laptop is a good choice.

The trend has been a downward slope in prices for laptops of late... you don't need to credit the 1GHz chips but just improving technology in general. If you don't care much about warantees you could probably pick up a nice used p3 700MHz laptop w/ DVD for about that price... just look around, you shouldn't have much trouble finding one

But does anyone know if laptop processor chips can be upgraded in the future and where to find the info?? Anyone have the fujitsu e-series?? seems like its been doing real well in Japan and i'm kinda biased for things made in japan....

Some laptops can have their processor upgraded (my compaq can), but most of them have the processor integrated and cannot be removed. Mobile P3's are hard to come by since they aren't sold retail, so even if your laptop was upgradeable, it would be difficult to get your hands on a faster processor
