Question Laptop or Surface?

Thinking of getting a small 2-1 as a gift. Looking at costco, can get a lenovo flex 14 or a surface go for 400-450. Want something small that uses regular windows. How does typing on the surface keyboard function, do you need to have it on a hard surface or is it usable in bed like a regular laptop would be?

After doing a bit more reading, think I'll go with the lenovo. A higher class of CPU and double the ram should give it longer longevity.

careful as far as i know the 399.99 surface go uses eMMC storage which is not nearly as good as an ssd, i think the version thats like 500-550 (depending on sales at the time) uses a true ssd which is going to be more reliable in the long term. As far as use in bed, sure, you can choose between the on screen keyboard or using the attachable keyboard (that you will likely need to purchase separately) you dont necessarily have to be on a flat surface. Although i will mention the 2-1 laptops are pretty cool, and seem pretty easy to use in most positions you would prefer. But basically look at what you're getting for your money. And a lot of times users can sacrifice some CPU performance, and instead getting an ssd (this is important having a true ssd makes a huge difference in user experience) so the surface for 500ish (529 last checked on amazon) for a lot of users is a great option if they want it to be more "portable", although if you have the cash to drop get both you can get a 8th gen I7, 8gb ram, and a 256ssd(pretty sure its nvme but i would have to look into it to be sure) in a 14in form factor with included Bluetooth pen and other cool features for around 800$ with the lenovo flex 6.
