Laptop onboard memory

Hello Folks,
I will be getting a new Laptop and while looking through most stores I've noticed that most Laptops come with 8 GB memory so my question is
is that enough to run WIn10? I'm a huge gamer but I do that on my home built gaming machine so the Laptop will be just for social media,
downloaded movies from Netflix/Amazon, and some photo editing. Also should I go with the newer type pf SSD drive? and would 256G be sufficient?

Thanks, Jake

i use 512gb - 1tb ssd (but i put it myself since the prebuilt ones are never super fast ).you should be able to add another 8gb stick since photo editing should use a decent amount of memory, but if you dont feel comfortable opening it up id defiantly buy one with 512gb and 16gb ram to start with, otherwise just upgrade it your self.
