Laptop on wireless network

Ok so my friend's dad just got a new dell laptop. They already have a wireless network (one desktop HP is on wireless and one compaq is wired in). They are using an 802.11b linksys Wireless router. Now I had to help them set this up and it works fine. Now i'm trying to help them get the laptop on the network also. The laptop has a built in dell wireless chip, so its not a PCMCIA device. I can't figure out how to connect it to the wireless network (we used a linksys PCI card in the desktop and it came with software). Windows won't find the network (named linksys), and I tried manually putting in the SSID as linksys and it says its not connected.(this is XP home).

WEP is not enabled, just the Zonealarm key feature, and zonealarm is runinng with that key on all 3 computers, so thats not the problem. How would I go about this? Thanks.

Hmm... on my uncle's dell laptop which also has a built in wireless chip, it detected the network automatically and connected to it....
