Laptop mouse.

So my laptop has the little built in mouse, like most do these days. or all. maybe all.

anyways, it has the small area on the right side of the mouse that allows me to scroll up or down, basically the same function as a scroll wheel on a mouse.

My dilemma is that the scroll pad does not work in mozilla firefox, although it does work in internet explorer.

has anyone else encountered this problem, and does anyone know a fix to this problem?

Have you tried looking for the latest drivers for it?

I have a mouse pad with up/down scroll and left/right, it works for me in Firefox.

I wonder if there is something in the about:config of Firefox that might help.

so its like a synoptics built in mouse, I can actually get firefox drivers for the mouse? any ideas where?

If I remember correctly, it is probably a good idea to

* uninstall the old Synaptics software first,
* make sure no other pointing devices are connected when you install the new software.

did you pull the driver right from the Synaptics site or did you go to your OEM site? Because i tried both, and neither are working?

I've been using the generic driver from Synaptics for a long while now, after my laptop OEM stopped updating theirs. I didn't lose any functionality from the switchover.

Yours does have a Synaptics pad to begin with, no?

yes. it came with the synaptics pad from the get go. Its an HP laptop running winxp home edition. The OEM site for HP does have a driver for the synaptics pad, which i tried, but still no scroll function in firefox. .

I also tried the generic driver from Synaptics, with no luck. . .
