Where can you find replacement motherboards for Laptops? Any suggestions?

The only cost effective way I know is to buy a used or discontinued same model on E-Bay and cannabalize it for parts.

That's my understanding as well.
Edit: Let me add sometimes you can get one that has a bad display or other broken component other than the one you really need from the FS/FT forum or Fleabay and save even more.
