Laptop monitor shuts off

I have a small, cheap ($250) ASUS laptop and its relatively new (6mos old).

However, one day the monitor just started going black when its opened past 90 degrees. Move it back before it hits 90, and the monitor flips right back on.

I did some digging around and all I could find referencing this was that it could be due to a shorted monitor cable. I'm not even sure what the cable looks like or where I could possibly purchase one if possible to switch it out.

On Tuesday i'm going to see if the laptop is able to be repaired under warranty, but i dont have the receipt or original box since it was a gift.

Anyone have some insight or suggestions?

The laptop is so cheap it wouldnt even be worth it to have it repaired at a shop either.

Thanks for any help!

Outside chance it could just be a loose connector. If you arent willing to have it professionally looked at, you might try to open the unit up yourself or have a friend who is mechanically inclined try to open the case and inspect the cable (usually flat ribbon) between the LCD and the main board.

yup. sounds like a bad cable.

go the warranty route 1st before taking it apart 🙂

if you dont feel comfortable taking it apart, get your personal data off of the laptop and sell it for 150-200 and describe the problem. someone will buy it to fix it

6 months old it's probably in warranty (unless you bought refurb)
warranty it!
get whatever important documents onto a USB drive or something and just send the netbook/notebook in for repairs

i don't think warranties need receipts (just returns?)
just contact ASUS customer service
