Laptop Monitor Problems?

Hi
Yesterday when i booted up my laptop , the monitor refused to work. i can see a faint image sometimes but not always. there seems to be a crack at the bottom-right edge of the monitor. i have tried tightening the screws et al. any suggestions?

I'm not sure if this is it, but if you can see a faint image on your LCD, it could be the Back light of the screen. Are there any controls to brighten or darken the LCD? If you can control that from the keyboard (I know new Dells can) and you notice the faint image, fade in or out, than it is probably the back light. I don't know if that is the right term for what primarily lights up an LCD, but I have seen other discussions about similar problems.
Do you have a VGA connector on the back of your notebook? (I haven't seen one that doesn't, but I haven't use a lot of laptops) If you can hook it up to an external monitor, then you make sure it is your LCD for sure. Good luck. -john

another suggestion, if you can open your notebook safely, check if the cpu catridge is seated probably.
