Question laptop memory upgrade

Hello

i have a HP ProBook 430 G1 (E5H31PA) laptop
there are 2 memory slots in it, in one slot there is a 4GB module
maximum memory 12 GB

question: can I add 8 and get 4 + 8 = 12 or the amount of memory in the slots should be 6 + 6 = 12 ?????
The max memory the for this laptop is 16GB, 8+8= 16. You can go 4+8 =12, but I agree with ch33zw1z, you won't find 6gb modules.

To ensure the best performance from RAM when attempting to upgrade, always read your user manual (RAM upgrade section).

For example, view your particular systems requirements needed to support dual channel mode. Typically this requires matched (two or four) DDR modules to be able to operate in "dual channel mode."
