what should I do, I have the averatec 3250 laptop and had the connection between the power supply and the laptop get all tweeky as far as recharging. I had to send it in once before because I would have to shake the cable to get it to charge. the right corner where you charge the laptop also started to get really hot.

it's now out of warranty but it's happening again and getting really hot. it actually melted the ac adaptor part of the connection because it was connected to the laptop. should I contact the fda or someone about this. it's seems pretty dangerous at this point. I'm going to call averatec but i'm worried about this catching on fire.

If you had to shake the cable to get it to charge, is it possible then that there could be a short in the cable and this is what is generating the heat? Is it possible to just get a new cable? If you are worried about the fire, I would not use it until you can come up with a resolution.

Take it to a local small Mom & Pop computer store that does bench work on lappies. It might be a loose charge jack in the laptop with a cold solder joint causing the connection to heat up. Or you may have a shorted cable on the charger.

DO NOT take this to a large retail store for repair. TRUST ME. Take it to a small mom & pop shop. They can open it up and see if it's the charger or the jack on the laptop, and give you a quote to fix it. Probbaly you'll be into a solder job to fix the jack on the lappy, and maybe a replacement power supply.

ok I'll take it to a local shop, but it melted the tip of the ac adaptor. I just think it's pretty scary what would have happened if i wasn't there.

The same thing just happened to my wife's 3225H. Would you mind sharing the outcome of this episode?
