Laptop LCD into a monitor

DO you guys know if there is a way to take a LCD monitor off of a alaptop and splice it to work with a desktop computer? Thanks alot for any help!

I have often thougha bout this. I think it would be really cool if possible (buy up old laptops just for the screens). It should not be that difficult. It should just be a matter of a hardware device that converts the vga signal into one for the LCD. I am sure that there must be some standard that LCDs use to connect to the computer.
