my aunts Dell inspiron 6000's screen seems to be dead or dying. When you turn it on the screen comes on for like 2 seconds and is tinted all red and then shuts off. You can still see whats on the screen though if you look hard enough. I think maybe just the backlight is the problem. I googled it and determined that it could be the lcd power inverter so i got one off ebay for like 10 bucks but it didnt help.

What else could be causing this?

The "red tint" on the screen is a bad sign.

I've worked on a lot of laptops over the years and those usually go out completely pretty soon after the red shows up.

See if you can find a "parts" 6000 on eBay with a good screen to swap out with yours.
