Hi, I was just wondering if you took the LCD screen from a laptop and disconnected it, what type of connection would it use ? I know that it's not a SVGA for sure, is it DVi ? DFP ? can anyone help ?

yea i took my laptop apart. kinda hard, but it doesnt have too many pins , but there were 2 connectors. probabl ysome special format. like dvi-d maybe, since they wouldn't need the analog channel except for for the external port. i found that my entire graphics card actually comes off too. too bad its only a 4mb savage ix, and i dontknow where to get a new one.

A proprietary connection is one that is unique to that manufacturer or model. In other words it does not follow any industry standard.

Hey sounds like a good idea! You gonna do it or should I?

My little FAQ V1.0 feel free to add to it

"Can I make my laptop LCD screen into a stand alone desktop screen"

The answer is yes it is possible, but in reality its not practical to do so

First of all you need to get a video card that will be able to speak to the LCD. Since the LCD is digital, you need a card that sends the digital signal your LCD needs.

Second you need to power the FL inverter that lights up the LCD backlight.

Third you need to rig up the proper cables to hook everything together (mylar, and wired of all shapes and sizes with custom harness's)

Fourth you need to package this all so it wont fall apart and explode on your desk

I like to compare it to launching your own satellite. Yes, theoretically you could do it, but it won't be easy!
