I've removed the keys and ensured that nothing is sticking. Here is the problem: The top row of letters on the laptop keyboard (q,w,e,r,t,y,u,i,o,p,[,]) when pressed display not only that key, but also the key on the row above the pressed key, that is when I press "i" I get i8, "o" I get o9, etc.

Num lock is not on, Fn keys are not enabled, I've rebooted, etc.

Any thoughts on how to fix this. I'm hoping it's a dumb-ass issue on my end :)

Thanks in advance!

Couldn't hurt to plug in a USB kb and see what happens. Or maybe boot to a DOS/Bart/WinPE/*nix CD/thumbdrive and see if it happens there as well.

I was thinking the same thing on both of your suggestions. I'll start w/ the external keyboard first and see what happens. I just wasn't sure if there was something else I could do.

Thanks!

If it is a problem with an external too you might try a fresh install of windows, but I don't think that is the problem.

I worked on a problem like this recently. It was an ASUS netbook with a hosed BIOS. I had to use an external USB keyboard to get past the BIOS problem because the keyboard was not working. Some keys would double up like yours, some keys did not work at all and other keys worked normally. When I removed the keyboard I found where the cable had a worn, damaged spot on it that I think was causing the problem. The keyboard flexed when you pressed it and it appears that the cable was rubbing against a sharp aluminum edge under the keyboard. I bought a new original keyboard from ebay for $20 and that fixed the problem. I also put a piece of thick electrical tape over the sharp edge to keep it from happening again.
