Hi all,
I just built a desktop for about 200 or so buy buying the parts online and installing the. everything works great and its cool.
I would now like to build a laptop cause they are so damn expensive on in the store.
Does anyone know of a website where i can buy laptop motherboards ect, or if this is even possible. What about buying a used laptop and swapping the motherboard/proceser. but where can i get a motherboard/processer for a laptop.
plz help ty

I don't think you will find all the components to assemble a laptop from scratch but you can find barebones laptops (CPU, Hard drive, memory not included). I was interested in doing that but the barebones cost about 400 bucks and if you get a mobile chip that will set you back 200-300 bucks. If you go with a desktop chip (much cheaper) then you run the risk of having a stability and heat problems. Your best bet is to purchase a refurbished or used laptop, and upgrade the memory, hard drive and live with the installed cpu.

If you look long enough you could buy parts, from damaged laptops off ebay but then you have to buy "as is" which can be risky.

The design of a laptop, espically cooling, is so much more complicated than the design of a desktop. The whole system has to be built from the ground up with each component in mind so that everything fits the way it should in the smallest form factor and doesn't overheat. There's no real way you could just buy components and piece together your own laptop without expending as much money/labor as you would have had you actually bought one from somewhere :)
