Laptop help?!?!

my laptop is running very slow
i keep it up to date with spy ware and virus protection

but my core 1 and core 2 "meter" is always running high.
i am not using any cpu intensive programs.

i honestly do not know what is wrong...
please advise

Cpu T7500
Ram: 3gb

OS: vista sp1

What does your running prosses look like? Are there allot of programs running in the background? If your using the google toolbar or Yahoo toolbar then those may have an issue and are using up CPU cycles.
 
Might want to head over to the Software/Security forum, sounds like a crap load of spyware and viruses.

Some free anti virus programs are ad-aware, spybot search & destroy, AVG free, avria antivir. You might also want to consider using a trial version of a commerical antivirus/firewall security suite like zone alarm (14 day trail). But as I said, head over to the security forum for further advice.

It could also be heat. I had a heatpipe "break"!?!? on a Inspiron laptop, and once it heated up, the cpu would peg out, and run like crap.
