Laptop Help: Toshiba Satellite A505-S6965 won't start.

Hello all,


This morning I turned my laptop on and it wouldn't boot. I did the typical restart...power cycle...held the power button for 1 min...and everything else suggested. I removed the hard drive and made sure it still worked...and it did. I also noticed the power button and hard drive status light would blink every few secs. Has anyone experienced anything like this or have any suggestions? At this point, I am assuming the motherboard burned out/overheated. Thank you in advance for all your help.

Hi Denis280,

Did all of that including RAM and other parts. The power light is lit when I plug the charger in, but nothing else happens after I push the power button. I'm assuming the motherboard has died. Any other possible suggestions? Thanks again for your input.

Did you try with another monitor on it to see if you get to the bios screen or error screen.the gpu is my last option.and also another question.when you did try the hdd in another pc.did it boot up or just got access to folder.the boot. ini might be corrupt.try booting without the hdd.and see if you get something on screen.
 
Yes I did, nothing showed up on the monitor.

Yes, the hdd did boot up and I was able to access all my files/folders.

Any last straw suggestions? Thanks for your input
 
I think you have done almost everything you can. Try the ram one stick at a time and in different slots although there is still a slight chance both sticks of ram are defective. You can also try disconnecting the DVD and keyboard. The bad news is that is more than likely a parts unit. The good news is specs say that is a 16.0 LCD screen which is an oddball and worth $90 by itself.
 
Thanks for the suggestion guys. I am going to do a switch-a-roo and swapp out the motherboard with a replacement. I've read a lot of these Toshiba laptops run into heating problems....that combined with a sprinkle of "bad luck" and you got yourself a paperweight. I'll keep you guys posted.
