Hello...

I just had my laptop "die" on me today... well i don't have any important data on it, but my wife has a couple of Gb of her pictures on it... and this a kind of a bad time to say "i told you so" about that backup thing... :D

Now its not the laptop that dies its just the HDD, but not really "dead", jut that there is nothing left on it... like the partition simply "dissapeared"

When i try to reinstally winxp, its says "unknown partition"

Is there any way i can try to recover the pictures? I Used to have a program called FileScavenger which worked quite well, but only on files i just deleted... will any recovery program work if windows doesn't recognize the partition?

Oh well...
Thanx :)

You could try a Ubuntu cd and when you get to the desktop try to access the drive and then copy the files to a thumb drive.

Or take out the hard drive and connect it to your desktop (if its ATA you would need a converter) and try to connect to the drive that way.

I ordered a 44 - 40 pin adapter, and i'll try to hook it to my desktop... is there any particularly good recovery programs out there?

Its like when you get a new HDD, and windows just detects its there, but its unformatted yet...
