laptop hard drive question

I need a new hard drive for my laptop, and I have an old thinkpad t20. it says on the ibm site that ata 5 hard drives will work with it, but searching around online I notice that most laptop hdd's are ata 6. would I be able to put an ata 6 hard drive in my laptop, even though it says ata 5 on the ibm site? much thanks for any help/insight.

More importantly, check your guide as to what capacity drive your T20's BIOS will handle. Older laptops had some size limitations. Sizzle is great - but it also defines heat that older laptops' cooling systems may not adequately handle.

Just buy and external hard drive probably be cheaper. Also if you laptop ever craps out then it's all good cause you have your stuff saved.

PM me. I have just formatted and wiped 5 very good 2.5-in drives. One 6, Two 20s, 2 40s, and a 100GB.
