I'm just wondering if there are any online retailers that sell some slightly outdated lappy's for under 550ish. Need dvd player, 256mb of ram, and at a max a 25-30gb hdd. I have, and will continue to watch the FS/FT forum, but just wondering if there are any retailers that I can browse around just to get a reference worth of price.

Avoid TigerDirect. Biggest Scam

I bought a Refurb Toshiba Protege from them $499. Everything works but the battery (last only 5 minutes, no jokes)
they say that was part of the risk I take in buying Refurb, no refund.
I've argue for hours (add $40 phone charges) and they finally agree for at least and exchange. So I paid for $35 for FedEX's
special Laptop Delivery Designed Boxes, only to have it return to me.

TigerDirect inform me that I must SHIPPED BACK TO THEM in the "EXACT" same outside BOX they've send me. [size of a 36" TV]
As luck would have it, the trash man hasn't thrown the Big Ass Boxes away.
So I have to paid another $27 in UPS Ground shipping..........

I should have spend more $$$ in the first place and buy it NEW

I got a sweet IBM T23 with one year left on the IBM warranty off of ebay for about that much. Came with P-3 1.2 proc., the IBM DVD/CD-R combo drive, 256 MB RAM, 40 Gig HD, XP Pro with COA, battery only had 35 cycles on it and both the machine and screen are flawless, so the deals are out there. I got it from INET solutions on ebay and would highly recommend them. If you want contact info, give me a PM.

the thing is, tiger direct does say specifically that if buying refurb computers, they promise everything works except the battery. I think most retailers have a similar policy. Batteries naturally die after a year or two depending on usage.

Wouldn't it be easier to just order a new battery for it?
