I want to make a digital photo frame using an old laptop (http://likelysoft.com/hacks/pictureframes.shtml).

However, I do not have any electronic know-how. Browsing the aforementioned website, it looks rather simple, but I wanted to request links to basic laptop wiring guides/etc, so that I don't really fudge things up.

Another question, is there a way to turn on a screen saver, yet have the hard drive power down as to reduce noise?

Any tips?

Do you already have an old laptop to use? It might be more expensive to find an older laptop than to just buy a digital frame. I just bought a high end digital frame for $160 on Amazon but they were as low as $40.

I have an old compaq presario that's been laying around for a couple of years. It didnt' have an AC plug, so I just put a bid on one on ebay. I like the idea of having a laptop as a digital frame, because you can use WiFi to display pictures off a flickr account! Plus, I can maintain it using VNC (remote administration). Lastly, most retail digital frames are quite ugly!

BTW, what frame did you purchase?
