laptop for deployment

lookin for a laptop under 1,000 within the next 3-4 months for my deployment for iraq, i will take 90% of all suggestions very seriously since im a total noob at laptops.

edit: this will be used for basic gaming, eve online, some css, some bf2/2142, nothing super high end new games or anything.

Dell Inspiron E1505 with a graphics upgrade, preferably at least the Radeon X1400.

HP.com offers custom builds with nvidia cards, you'd want at least a 7400 go.

For laptop gaming the graphics card is the key requirement, it's likely to be the main bottleneck for any laptop under $1,000.

friend mentioned this one, it looks ok, im just not 100% sure if i wanna bother building my own or not. anyone have experience building they're own laptop and if its cheaper or not to do so?

edit: i was already looking at dell, some of em do seem like a pretty good buy, when i got finished, it was just over 1100 for the laptop of my choice.

That R&J link starts at $700 for the shell, but once you add parts (CPU, RAM, HD, OS, DVD, wifi) it's $1,360. Both Dell and HP should offer good laptops closer to your $1,000.

edit: The X1400 and 7400 Go are kinda bad I'd look for X1600 or 7600 Go

after, looking at that link i configured a nice notebook to me at least

I'd say it's a pretty good notebook for the price keep in mind you could probably get it cheaper by doing it yourself
T7200 = $300 ( save $20 )
2GB = $200 ( save you $60 )
HD 80GB = $70-80 ( not much probably buy from them )
DVD-RW = $60-70 ( save $10 )
If you buy those online you'll end up having to pay for shipping and maybe tax

for the most part, i was going to order most of the parts from the egg. i figured i was gonna save money. im gonna go for a smaller internal drive, and get a nice 500gb-750gb external drive.

edit: i was probly gonna get the t5300 1.83, same cpu as my desktop but the mobile version. figured wth, why not. best for the price. with what i want in it, which is no cpu/ram/hd/os, with the wireless and cd rom, its only 820.

bump
