Laptop fan noise, annoying as HELL - plz help

Hi guys,

Its 2:42am in the morning and my laptop's fan is depriving me of my sleep!!!!!

I have a new Toshiba Satellite P105 series - which I leave on during the night to download files.

The problem is this... its virtually silent, then every 40-50 seconds (yes I timed it) it WOOOSHES, then goes silent again. Then repeats this over and over.

I mean i'd prefer a slight constant fan noise to this sh*t! It's soo annoying. I would have thought a brand new laptop wouldn't have cr*p like this!!

Maybe there is some fan settings program that i've missed or available to download???

Somebody plz help 🙁

nope, just a torrent downlaoding program.

I dont know my temps, I dont have a programs for this.

Can anyone suggest one for toshiba laptops?????

Laptop fans go on when the temp sensors tell them to. Since it's a laptop, why not move it to another room if you are going to leave it on at night?

I've got a laptop like this too. I really do sympathise with the OP, its damn annoying. Like the previous poster, see if speedfan can do anything for you (unlikely, but its worth a shot).

Have you thought about using a standard room fan and pointing it at your laptop? And also, daft question but have you checked to see if there are any fan options in the BIOS (again unlikely but you never know).

One final thought, does your laptop use a mobile cpu e.g. Athlon XP-M, Turion, Pentium M, Core Duo/Solo? If so then you may be able to use RM Clock to manually undervolt the CPU - that'll certainly knock off temps therefore at least lowering the frequency of your fan coming on, if at all.

So,
First of all, the idea of a cooling pad is a good one if you want to run your laptop at full clock.

Toshiba has a great little utility in the bottom right hand corner that looks lke a battery with hands on either side of it. Double click it.

This utility allows you to set/change cooling details (for your fans). Another good idea is to alter your Cpu's processing speed. If your just torrenting you don't need to run your cpu or cpus at 100% Clock them down, and you should have a better time.
