Laptop failure question

I'm not sure where this is supposed to go, but i'll post it here.

Basically, it's like this.... everytime I try to do some very specific things with my laptop, it'll pretty much shut down. It'll show a blue screen, have a bunch of words saying something along the lines of "There was an error, your computer sucks, and your F'd. Call someone who knows anything about computers to help your lame butt!" And it'll also say "Dumping physical memory"..... what's the deal with this?

Everytime I try to play minesweeper, set-up a network connection, and do some other things, it plainly will not work.

thanks for the help guys.

Need some more information here.

1. What operating system are you running?
2. Can you be more specific about the BSOD you are seeing?
3. Did this start happening recently? Have you made any upgrades or added any hardware to laptop recently?

sorry, forgot to mention I was on XP.

I don't know what BSOD means? If you are referring to the blue screen, I really can't remember. I'll head home in a little bit and let your know.

No, this has happened semi-recently. Randomly for about a year. I diregarded it until now.... but it's pissing me off! No upgrades done.

I also forgot to mention, it's a relatively old laptop. Celeron processor from about 4 years ago.

It sounds like a driver or potentially a hardware problem (those are what usually cause BSOD (Blue Screens of Death) under XP).

Give us a detailed rundown of the hardware in the PC. Maybe something will jump out.

Well, I don't know what exactly is in the LAPTOP. I'm sure I can find out though. One thing that HAS changed in recent times is going from (I think) Win98 to WinXP.....

[BLUE SCREEN)

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

If thi is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Adavanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x000000050 (and basically a bunch of random numbers)

Begining dump of physical memory
[A percentage appears and counts up to 100%)
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance.

If win98 ran fine then it's going to be a driver issue. Narrow it down by deleting drivers you don't need. But you say your networking doesn't work so that might be it. Let me guess, you're using a wireless network card?
