My daughter's Vista laptop suddenly shut itself down, and upon reboot, the resolution was very low. When I tried to set the resolution to a higher value the maximum resolution available to select was 1024x768. This is for a 17 inch HP laptop. I am not sure what the native resolution should be, but it has to be much higher that this. When I did dxdiag, there were question marks where the information for the graphics hardware and memory size should have been.
I managed to get back to an acceptable resolution by doing a system restore to before the time the problem happened, but I am afraid the problem will reoccur.
Has anyone else had a similar problem?? The laptop is an HP, about 1 year old, dual core AMD processer, 2 gig of ram, vista home premium. There is a sticker on the case that indicated the graphics is by nVidia. I think it is a 7100 integrated chip, but I am not that sure. I have never used this computer, so I am a little unclear on the details.
Can anyone help diagnose this problem and suggest a way to prevent a recurrence?? Do you think it is only a driver problem, or is it a hardware problem with the graphics chip or motherboard??
