Laptop does not have MPEG?

A friend was looking at laptops, and asked me what it meant when a laptop does not have MPEG.

Example

I always thought MPEG was merely a file type. Does this mean that the laptop can't play mpegs? That doesn't sound right...An explanation would definitely be appreciated.
