I have a dead laptop here (bad powersupply). Is there any way I could get it to function as a display for my counterstrike server (currently does not have a monitor and i have to VNC into it). I have pretty good electronics knowledge. But is it possible? There is probably a ribbon cable going from the display to the board. Could I just decode which wires in there correspond to which pins on a monitor connector and give the thing power or is it more complicated?

Hello. This question has been posed before...and I've considered it also. The main problem is that LCD displays are digital and CRT displays are analog. You'd have to find or build a digital-to-digital converter for the display as well as match up all those wires from that ribbon cable to wherever they go and then find some way to control all the settings (brightness/color/skew..all that stuff) If you were an Electrical Engineer with prolly $300-400 for parts laying around and a few days on your hands to kill, I'd say go for it. But I wouldn't even try......you get an "A" for effort though! :):):):)
