How many different kind are there? Like in the desktop... there are the PPGA, FCPGA and Slot 1 for the intel pentium 3..
But in laptops specs I've read, they have MMC1, MMC2, upga2, bga... what do they all mean.. And what does processor packaging mean... I mean I'm looking for a cpu for my laptop and my mobo needs IMM/MMC2 processor packaging. So does that mean I HAVE to HAVE mmc2 type or will I be able to use BGA or uPGA2? VERY VERY confused... Sorry for my typing for I am very very annoyed right now. Thanks and please reply :0)

Throughout the versions of the laptop CPUs, there have been various different types of packaging.

The MMC1/MMC2 is a special package that not only contains the CPU and cache, it also contains part of the North Bridge of the motherboard chipset.

If your laptop uses this type of CPU package, then you MUST find another MMC1/MMC2 package to replace it.

The uPGA and BGA versions are not compatible, as these only contain the CPU and cache.
