open a Command Prompt window, and type "ping www.google.com". It should resolve to an IP address, and it should return four ping responses.

Also, you can open a Command Prompt, and type "ipconfig /all", and look to make certain that your desired adaptor has acquired a valid IPv4 address, gateway, and DNS server(s).
