I have a gateway solo 2500 that wont let me into the bios because it no longer recognizes my password. How do you reset the cmos so it will erase the password?

(as far as I know) open up the laptop, find the cmos battery - a lithium battery shaped like a really thin cylinder - then also find the "clear cmos jumper." Change the position of the jumper to 2-3 instead of 1-2 (or to 1-2 instead of 2-3) and remove the battery. Put the battery back in after 30 seconds, and switch the jumper back to its original position and you are good to go. Thats the standard deal on a desktop, I can't imagine it being different for a laptop, except a little trickier to get into the damn thing :) Good luck

It may be a jumper, though there are many variations of a bios reset in laptops. Some Toshiba's used to have combination of keys that you pressed while you were powering it up. In some older Compaq's, you had to pull a cmos battery and have no power hooked up to it and pull the big battery for 30 minutes.
