Laptop charging problem

I have a Toshiba A75 laptop that I bought about 6 months ago used. It's been a geat laptop up until recently. Just the other day, its started doing this quirky problem. When you plug in the laptop with the AC adapter, it will start charging, then *most of the time* it will cut AC power and run off the battery. Then I unplug from the laptop and reinser the AC adapter, and after repeating a few times, i will continue charging and running off AC for a while. It will NOT do that if I unplug from the outlet and re plug it in.

What weird is that when it does cut AC power and run off the battery, the LED indicating that the AC power is on continues to light up normally. When I run off the battery I have no problems.

I should note that I also recently put in an extra 512 MB of RAM recently. But I don't see how it could be causing problems.

Anyone else have a similar problem? Is this hardware or software related? I'm gonna reformat soon anyway, but I'd like to get some input first.

Remove the battery completely. Then run it off of only the A/C adapter and see if it runs steady. If not - you could have a faulty A/C adapter.

Hi, The laptop should have an indicator lite that is only on when the ac adaptor is providing power. It should tell you if power is intermittent. Connectors in the comp are bad about becoming intermittent. Some time they come unsoldered from the MB and some time are dirty. I've resoldered or repaired many. The other thing is that the wires in the lead from the adaptor break at the plug on the end where it gets bent all the time. Good Luck, Jim
