Hi,

Sorry, I hit the wrong key earlier.

I've got a Uniden 2004 access point and a uniden wireless card in my laptop. I can ping the notebook from the desktop and get a response. However, when I ping the desktop from the laptop, I get "Request timed out." This is driving me crazy. Here are the network IP addresses. The desktop is connected to the ac via built in nic and cable.

desktop 192.168.0.1 (manually configured) This is the DCHP server since I only have dialup internet.
ap 192.168.0.11 (manually configured) DCHP turned off.
laptop 192.168.0.116 (auto assigned by DCHP server)

What's wrong?

Thanks,
Randy

Well, cause it doesn't have eyes, so I'm not suprised it can't see :)

Sorry for the poor joke, anyway, a little bit of info from you would enable us to help you.

What operating system are you using on the laptop?

If XP, perhaps going to Windows Update and downloading the WAP update under the second option (below critical updates), called "Windows XP", will help.

Sunbird,

I do have XP on both machines, I keep the auto updater turned on in XP. I don't see the update you are referring too. Have you got a a ms article number that I can lookup to find this update?

Thanks,
Randy

ok, I got the laptop to see the desktop...forgot that Zone Alarm had to be configured to allow laptop access to desktop files. Now, I can seem to open Internet Explorer. I have a connection icon in network connections and an icon saying I'm connected to the internet via my desktop. When I open IE, all I get is "The page cannot be displayed".

Any ideas on this?

Thanks for the help,

Randy

Back from a good nights sleeps, so lets attend to your problem.

In my network places, go to the network tasks option of the common tasks area on the left of your screen.

Select "set up a home or small office network" option and run through that and select what applies to your situation.

Hope that helps.

Sunbird,

I reran the Network Wizard and I lost my connection icon on my laptop. I think the problem may lie in proxy settings, but I'm not sure. I can share folders fine. Just can't share internet.

Thanks,

Randy

The problem appears to be with Zone Alarm on my host computer. After I shutdown Zone Alarm, I was able to connect to the internet with my laptop via the host pc's internet connection. I really want to keep Zone Alarm. How do I set it up to allow the laptop to use the host internet connection?
