Purpose: Coding, coding and more coding. Don't want to game at all with this machine.
Don't need a touchscreen. The nicer the screen the better and a back-lit keyboard is very desirable. Really want a 15" screen, might be able to do a 14"

Brand: don't care much for Dell

Budget: ~$1000

Jason can you tell me what kind of coding you planning to do? Do you want to stick with a particular OS (MacOS,Linux,Windows)?

Should be able to run linux VM on windows or windows VM on linux so that doesn't matter. The macos route (not including hackintoshes) is going to be > $1k with a 15" screen. Unless I find a good deal on a used model. But they seem to hold their value exceptionally well so that might be rough.

14" HP 3200*1800 $800 w/o SSD

Or configure one of the HP 15" versions at their own site to 1080p with their coupon "PC92229", like this. Also comes w/o SSD. Coupons expire today.

Edit: or the ASUS Q501 at Best Buy... $730, still no SSD. See AT thread below

Some pretty good options there S44. Thanks for the link to the techbargains site!

I am so totally picky. I'll find something eventually. I'm starting to think the super resolution screens aren't worth it in Windows yet. Researching if a Linux distro does well with it...
